Undergraduate Brochure (PDF)
For the past few years, Political Science has been the most popular major in the College. One reason is the size and quality of the faculty as well as the wide range of courses offered by the Political Science Department. The Department's course offerings and faculty expertise cover the entire discipline of political science, from the study of American political institutions and public opinion to the comparative analysis of various countries and world regions, theories of order and change in international security and political economy, and the study of ancient and modern political thought. These topics are typically classified under the four standard fields of American Politics, Comparative Politics, International Relations, and Political Theory. There are additional opportunities for concentrating on the study of Political Economy, Political Communication, the politics of particular regions, as well as other thematic topics. Many majors also opt to participate in the College's Washington Semester Program, during which students combine an internship with seminars taught in Washington DC. Students with qualifying grade point averages are also eligible to undertake a research project in conjunction with preparing a honors thesis in their senior year. For more information about the Political Science major, please download the brochure available here and/or consult with the Associate Director, Dr. Eileen Doherty-Sil.
